Speaker(s):
Tim Vander Kooi
Talk about Windows 8 is all the rage in IT circles these days with most people seeming to be of the opinion that Microsoft removing the old Start button was a terrible thing to do.
In this session we will be looking at the new Start screen with its Live Tiles and maybe just convince you that the Start button is not dead, it is simply much improved. We will also look at what a true Windows 8 work experience will look like from an information workers point of view as well as dive into some of Windows 8's new capabilities like native Hyper-V and new Server management tools and "Metro style" apps.

Asyncing and Awaiting Windows 8
Speaker(s):
Michael Perry
If you thought Silverlight was asynchronous, just a-wait till you see WinRT. Windows 8 is coming, and it has a completely new API. In addition to the familiar Win32, developers can now take advantage of WinRT to participate in the Metro experience.
Just about every operation in WinRT is asynchronous. And not just web calls. Even opening a file is an async operation. Arm yourself with the latest tools in .NET 4.5 -- the async and await keywords -- to take full advantage of the platform.
