Java 8 SE on the Raspberry PI
We will take a look at how to get started using your favorite Java Language to program on the PI. Topic will include the differences between the different Java platforms for the PI. We will install Java 8 SE Preview edition, Install and run Tomcat and create some simple web services. The class will assume you have a current version of Raspbian and a Raspberry PI Model B version 2.0 with 512MB memory. Students are welcome to bring a laptop and their PI if they want to follow along during the presentation.
Android - Consuming restful web services
This class will cover developing a simple application in Android Studio. Android apps are essentially written using Java syntax and methodologies even though the end result is not Java byte-code. The application will utilize web services to update the applications display and allow us to set properties remotely. The concepts will be kept somewhat simple but a prior understanding of Java or C# could be helpful.
