Chuck Tryon, Chief of Program and Knowledge Management, Founder - Tryon and Associates, Professor - University of Oklahoma, Founder, MyHealth Access Network

Chuck Tryon, Chief of Program and Knowledge Management, Founder - Tryon and Associates, Professor - University of Oklahoma, Founder, MyHealth Access Network

Chuck founded Tryon and Associates in 1986 to provide seminar training and consulting services. The strategies presented in Mr. Tryon's seminars are used by thousands of professionals in hundreds of organizations across the United States, Europe and Canada. His client list includes many top 100 companies.

Beginning in Spring of 2011, Chuck took on the position as Chief of Program and Knowledge Management for MyHealth Access Network. He is responsible for developing a health information network that is changing healthcare outcomes for people in Oklahoma. The MyHealth provider portal delivers rigorously validated health related data from dozens of hospitals, clinics, labs and payers. With a complex patient matching process, MyHealth maintains a Master Patient Index of over 4 million people. A community-wide view of a patient's medical information is then delivered to healthcare providers who have an authorized relationship with a patient. As part of the MyHealth project, Chuck participated in a collaboration that established data standards for securely moving patient data between organizations and application systems. He currently serves as the Beacon Chair for this affinity group.

The work at MyHealth extends Chuck's other experience in healthcare reform where he helped manage a project and produced business requirements for a large clinic's implementation of a patient-centered medical home model.

Chuck is also an adjunct professor at the University of Oklahoma where he teaches a graduate course on Knowledge Management. In 2012, Chuck published "Managing Organizational Knowledge: 3rd Generation Knowledge Management... and BEYOND!" (CRC Press, a division of Taylor and Francis). His work on project-centric Knowledge Management was published in "The Convergence of Project Management and Knowledge Management" (Scarecrow Press). Chuck has authored over a dozen seminars on knowledge management, project management and business requirements.

Chuck previously served as a co-chair and moderator for the annual Knowledge and Project Management Symposium (www.kipanet.org). Chuck is a frequent speaker for professional societies including Knowledge and Information Professionals Association (KIPA), Project Management Institute (PMI) and the International Association of Business Analysts (IIBA).

Chuck holds a master's degree in Knowledge Management and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration.Chuck and his wife, Tresa, reside in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area. They have two grown daughters, Amanda and Casey and three wonderful grandchildren. Chuck is an advanced open water SCUBA diver with certification and experience in deep diving and wreck diving. He is also an active golfer.

Building a Vision for Knowledge Management

For many senior leaders, Knowledge Management is an intangible academic discussion. They recognize the problem statement KM targets, but struggle to make it real. In this presentation, Chuck Tryon shows how to use the KM Vision Statement to turn concept into reality. The KM Vision Statement builds on well-defined beliefs that accurately identify an organization?s culture. It then recognizes tangible examples of how an organization currently delivers on specific KM practices. The KM Vision Statement then accommodates strategies planned across an organization that directly support the implementation of Knowledge Management. The KM Vision Statement also helps identify specific knowledge domains that may be used as the basis for creating a Knowledge Inventory.
