Making Sense of Sensor Data

Internet of Things devices are bombarding us with sensor data, but how can you make sense of it all? J. B. Hunt faced these challenges head-on when implementing on-board event recorder devices in all our trucks. In addition to regular GPS breadcrumbs, we suddenly had access to additional sensor data including ignition, acceleration, braking, geofence, fuel, tire, on duty/off duty, driver communication and even video feeds from forward facing cameras.

This session will focus on how the J. B. Hunt team solved common problems with event processing.

- We're going to need more servers. (Scaling to drink from the firehose of events)

- Who's driving, where are we going, and are we there yet? (Correlating sensor events with legacy data)

- You need to tell someone about that. (Handling notifications and human tasks)

- Why does it say that Bob is in China? (Separating the signal from the noise)

- Predicting the Future - Are we going to make it on-time? (Using real-time events to continuously update predictions)
