Drew Dennis, Enterprise Solution Architect, Amazon Web Services

Drew Dennis is an Enterprise Solution Architect at Amazon Web Services (AWS) with a recent focus on Microservices and container-based deployments. Drew also focuses on IaaS and Serverless workloads at AWS. Prior to AWS, Drew was a Solution Specialist at Microsoft for 10 years where he focused on System Center and SQL Server. In both roles, Drew has been focused on working directly with Enterprise customers in a non-billable role to help them remove barriers to adoption.

Overview of Big Data Workloads on AWS

This session will discuss big data challenges and provide an overview of the AWS Big Data Platform. We will also cover the rapidly expanding functionality AWS offers across big data stores, data warehousing, distributed analytics (supporting Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Hive, Pig and Yarn), Machine Learning and Business Intelligence. We will also touch on the broad selection of computational instance types ? optimized with varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage and networking capacity to satisfy the computational requirements of any big data use cases. Serverless

As serverless architectures become more popular, customers need a framework of patterns to help them identify how they can leverage AWS to deploy their workloads without managing servers or operating systems. This session will describe re-usable serverless patterns while considering costs. Also for each pattern we?ll provide operational and security best practices and discuss potential pitfalls and nuances. Target audience is Architects, System Operators and anyone looking for a better understanding of how serverless architectures can help them save money and be more agile. After the session, attendees should be able to recognize candidates for serverless architectures in their own organizations and understand areas of potential savings and increased agility.
